A completed example
This fictional example shows the level of detail to aim for. It is not a customer's work history.
End-of-day report Name: Priya S. Team: Customer onboarding Date: Thursday, October 1 Completed today - Finished the Harbor Logistics onboarding checklist and sent it to their admin for sign-off (9:00-10:45) - Fixed the broken CSV import mapping for the Fernwood Clinics account and tested it with their sample file (11:00-12:30) - Ran the weekly onboarding sync and posted notes in the team channel (1:30-2:00) - Reviewed 6 support tickets tagged onboarding and closed 4 (2:15-3:00) In progress - New welcome email sequence: emails 1 and 2 drafted, email 3 not started - Fernwood Clinics user permissions: half set up, waiting on their final list of admin users Blocked - Harbor Logistics SSO setup is blocked until their IT team shares the metadata file. Asked Dana on their side at 3:15, no reply yet. How to fill it in
- Write your name, team and the date at the top so the report still makes sense when someone reads it next week.
- Under Completed today, list each finished item with a concrete outcome and, if your team wants it, an approximate time range.
- Under In progress, say how far along each item is and what is left, rather than only naming the task.
- List a blocker only if you cannot move forward without someone else, and note who you asked and when.
- Finish with two or three priorities for tomorrow and any note your team should know before the next day starts.
Start from your actual work
On a Mac, Dayflow can help you remember the work behind the update. It drafts a timeline from screen activity. Export a date range as Markdown from Settings → Export. Review that record alongside your calendar and task tracker, then fill in the template above.
For a guided walkthrough, see exporting your work history or drafting a report with Claude Code. Check the assistant's draft before sending it.
Local AI keeps screenshot analysis on-device. Your own cloud provider or Dayflow Pro processes selected screenshots off-device. An assistant can receive the Dayflow data it retrieves in your conversation. Local storage does not make a cloud assistant conversation local. Read the data-flow guide before choosing a workflow.
Questions about this template
What should an end-of-day report include?
Most include four parts: work completed today, work still in progress, anything blocking you, and your plan for tomorrow. Add your name, team and date at the top. A short notes section is useful for risks or decisions others should know about. Keep each item to one line with a concrete outcome, such as sent, fixed or waiting on someone.
How long should an end-of-day report be?
Short enough to read in under a minute. For most roles that means three to six bullets under completed, a few under in progress, and only real blockers. If one item needs a paragraph of explanation, put the detail in the ticket or document it belongs to and reference it in a single line.
Is an end-of-day report the same as a timesheet?
No. An end-of-day report is a status update for your team. It can include rough times, but it is not an approved timesheet and should not be used for payroll or client billing unless your employer says it can. If you bill hours, record them in the system your company or client approves.
Should I include unfinished work in an end-of-day report?
Yes. Unfinished work is often the most useful part. Say how far along each item is and what is left, for example two of three emails drafted. Listing it openly lets your manager spot slipping work early and makes it clear which of tomorrow's tasks are carryovers rather than new work.
Can I fill in an end-of-day report automatically?
Partly. Dayflow drafts a timeline of your day from screen activity on a Mac, which can help you remember what you worked on and roughly when. You still need to check it, since AI summaries can miss or misread work, and add meetings, calls or other offline work yourself before sending the report.
